Conservatory too hot in summer, too cold in winter?
That is what a glass or polycarbonate roof does. It lets heat pour in all summer and leak out all winter, so the room gets used for a few weeks in spring and autumn and stands empty the rest of the year. The fix is the roof, not the conservatory. All three options below go on the frames you already have.
Why the roof is the problem
An old polycarbonate or glass roof is the thinnest part of the whole room. Up to 80% of the heat loss goes through it compared to an insulated roof, and in summer the same roof works like a greenhouse. New blinds, a heater or a fan fight the symptom. A new roof removes the cause.
The three fixes, cheapest first
- Insulated panel roof. Insulated composite panels replace the old polycarbonate or glass, your frames stay where they are. Around half the cost of a tiled roof, 1 to 2 days on site, and far warmer and quieter in rain than polycarbonate.
- Tiled roof. The old roof comes off and an insulated SupaLite or WarmerRoof goes on, plastered ceiling inside, tiles or slate outside. This is the work that turns a conservatory back into a room you use in January. A U-value as low as 0.15 W/m2K. (WarmerRoof's own figures)
- Glass roof. Modern solar control glass in place of tired old glazing. You keep the light and lose the greenhouse effect. The right choice for a room that wants to stay bright.

Questions people ask before they ring.
Will an insulated roof make the room dark?
The room keeps its windows and doors, so daylight still comes in from the sides, and a roof window can be set into a tiled roof where more light is wanted. If keeping maximum light matters most, solar control glass is the honest answer, and we will say so.
Will it really be warmer in winter and cooler in summer?
Yes. That is the whole point of an insulated roof, and it is also far quieter in heavy rain.
Do I need to replace the whole conservatory?
Usually not. If the frames are in good condition the roof alone is replaced, which is what makes this far cheaper than a full rebuild. We check the frames first and tell you straight.
