Replacing a polycarbonate conservatory roof

Polycarbonate was the standard conservatory roof for years, and every owner knows its habits: deafening in rain, baking in July, freezing in January, and duller every year as it weathers. Replacing it does not mean replacing the conservatory. All three options below go on the frames you already have.

What you can put in its place

Insulated panel roof: insulated composite panels drop in where the polycarbonate was. 1 to 2 days on site, around half the cost of a tiled roof, far warmer and much quieter in rain.
Tiled roof: a full insulated replacement with a plastered ceiling inside and tiles outside, so the room stops being a conservatory and starts being a room. Most tiled replacements take 2 to 5 days on site.
Solar control glass: for a room that wants to keep its light without the greenhouse effect.

Can the frames take it

Usually yes. Modern insulated roofs weigh about the same as the glass they replace, so sound existing frames can usually carry them. (WarmerRoof's own figures) We check first, and if your frames cannot take it we will tell you straight rather than fit it anyway.

How long does replacing a polycarbonate roof take?

Panel roofs are usually finished in 1 to 2 days. Tiled replacements take 2 to 5 days depending on the size and shape of the conservatory.

Is it worth replacing just the roof?

If the frames are sound, yes. The roof is where the heat and the noise come through, and replacing it alone costs a fraction of a new conservatory or an extension.
